Trsat was inhabited even in prehistoric times and the fort, that was part of a defense line in Roman times, went many renovations but the most famous was made by Count Laval Nugent during Austro-Hungarian Empire, who organized it as his home and established a museum. The castle can be reached by car or by public transportation, yet the most exciting way is by stairs from the city’s center. It is said that these 16th century stairs are cursed so nobody can count them precisely. Anyway, the view of the city and the whole bay from the castle is breathtaking so dont miss to visit when in Rijeka.

If you decide to visit Trsat, you can go there by stairs. Great expirience if you are going down and expirience of a lifetime if you are going up (and not fit).
